Redirect checker

List each redirect for a public URL. Kiln checks every next address and stops before a private or reserved one.

This one uses a server lookup because the job cannot finish on the device alone.

A public HTTP or HTTPS address. The address is sent to this site so each redirect can be checked.

Examples

Load a sample into the form, then run it.

How to use it

  1. 1Paste a public HTTP or HTTPS URL.
  2. 2Choose Check.
  3. 3Read the hop list. The last public response is the end of the chain Kiln followed.
  4. 4Copy the result.

When it helps

  • See whether HTTP sends people to HTTPS.
  • Count the hops in front of a final URL.
  • Notice when a redirect points at an address Kiln will not contact.

Good to know

  • Kiln follows at most five redirects.
  • A hop to a private, loopback, or reserved address is reported and not contacted.
  • The response body is discarded. This page does not show the final HTML.

Questions

What does a blocked hop mean?

The previous response pointed at an address Kiln does not connect to, such as localhost or a private network. That next URL was not requested.

Is the URL stored?

The address is sent so the redirects can be checked. It is not saved as content you submitted, and it is not included in analytics.
