HTTP header checker

Read the status code and response headers for one public URL without following redirects.

This one uses a server lookup because the job cannot finish on the device alone.

A public HTTP or HTTPS address. The address is sent to this site so the response headers can be read.

Examples

Load a sample into the form, then run it.

How to use it

  1. 1Paste a public HTTP or HTTPS URL.
  2. 2Choose Check.
  3. 3Read the status and the header list.
  4. 4Copy the result. The response body is discarded.

When it helps

  • See a content-type, cache, or security header.
  • Notice a redirect status without leaving the first response.
  • Compare the headers on a page URL before checking where it redirects.

Good to know

  • Redirects are not followed. A 301 or 302 is the result, not the page it points to.
  • The body is not saved or shown.
  • Header values are shortened when they are very long.

Questions

Why did a redirect stay on the first response?

This tool shows the headers of the URL you submitted. The redirect checker follows the public hops.

Is the URL stored?

The address is sent so the headers can be read. It is not saved as content you submitted, and it is not included in analytics.
