URL encoder
Percent-encode or decode a single URL component, or a full URI. The page explains which characters each choice keeps, and the input box is left unchanged.
It runs in your browser. What you enter stays on this device.
How to use it
- 1Paste the text or the encoded value.
- 2Choose Encode or Decode.
- 3Choose URL component for one value, or Full URI for a whole address.
- 4Choose Convert, then copy the result. Choose Clear to empty the box.
When it helps
- Encode a search phrase before adding it to a query string.
- Decode a percent-encoded path to read the original text.
- Encode spaces in a full address without breaking its : / ? & # structure.
Good to know
- A URL component encodes reserved characters such as : / ? & #. A full URI leaves those characters in place and encodes spaces and other unsafe characters.
- Spaces become %20. A plus sign is not treated as a space.
- Encoding does not detect text that is already encoded, so encoding twice turns %20 into %2520.
- Decoding rejects a % that is not followed by two hexadecimal digits, and percent-encoding that is not valid UTF-8.
- The input stays under 500 KB.
Questions
When should I choose Full URI?
Choose Full URI when the box contains a whole address and you want https:// and the path separators to remain. Choose URL component when the box is one piece, such as a query value, that will be inserted into an address.
Is the text uploaded?
No. Encoding and decoding run in this browser. The text is not sent to a server or included in analytics.
