Text diff

Compare an original text with a modified copy. Additions and deletions are marked with words and symbols, not by color alone. Both boxes stay as you typed them.

It runs in your browser. What you enter stays on this device.

Whitespace and line breaks are part of the comparison.

The original stays in the first box. Changes appear in the result.

Examples

Load a sample into the form, then run it.

How to use it

  1. 1Paste the original text and the modified text.
  2. 2Choose side by side or a unified list.
  3. 3Choose Compare.
  4. 4Copy the comparison, or choose Clear to empty both boxes.

When it helps

  • See what changed between two drafts.
  • Check a config edit before you save it.
  • Review a translation or a rewritten paragraph line by line.

Good to know

  • The comparison is by line. A changed line is one deletion and one addition, not a highlight inside the line.
  • A missing final line break is part of the last line, so that line can show as changed when the other side continues.
  • Spaces, blank lines, and a final line break are visible differences.
  • Each side stays under 200 KB and 5,000 lines so the page can keep responding.
  • Very long lines scroll inside the result instead of widening the page.
