MX record checker
Read the MX records for a domain. The result lists mail servers and their priority. It does not mean any mailbox exists or that mail will be delivered.
This one uses a server lookup because the job cannot finish on the device alone.
How to use it
- 1Enter the domain, not a full email address.
- 2Choose Check.
- 3Read the mail servers in priority order. A lower number is preferred.
- 4Copy the result if you need to share it.
When it helps
- See which provider receives mail for a domain.
- Confirm a new MX record is visible to a public resolver.
- Tell a missing mail server apart from a syntax problem in an address.
Good to know
- mailboxVerified stays unchecked. There is no SMTP conversation.
- A public resolver cannot see private DNS.
- At most eight mail servers are listed.
- Addresses shown next to a server are DNS answers. Kiln does not connect to them.
Questions
Does this prove the mailbox exists?
No. MX records name mail servers for the domain. They say nothing about one address at that domain.
Why is there no mail server?
The domain may not send or receive mail, or the record may not have reached the public resolver yet.
